GCSE & A Level

Along with our work in primary and middle schools Minstrels Gallery provide an introduction to medieval and renaissance music proving ideal grounding for GCSE and A level music students.

GCSE Performance

 

We bring our usual range of instruments, which we use to illustrate the development of music from plainsong through the beginnings of written music to the highly developed choral music of Renaissance Europe. Special attention is given to the pavanne and galliarde, along with the development of the madrigal.

The approach to composition is covered through explanation of modes, drones, ground bass and other devices favoured by the early composers.

Pupils are given the opportunity to play the instruments we bring and we can provide scores and parts for practical music making sessions.

These workshops are ideal for GCSE and sixth form students and we must admit that many teachers have said how much they personally have gained from one of our sessions.
